New EPR Rules for Textiles in the Netherlands: What We Know So Far

From January 1, 2025, all businesses selling textiles in the Netherlands must comply with new Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) rules. This includes managing textile waste and meeting recycling targets. Companies can join a compliance organization like ERP Netherlands to handle tasks such as registering, reporting, and running recycling initiatives. No matter the size of your business, these regulations apply to all retailers, manufacturers, wholesalers, importers and online suppliers.

Examples of products covered by this new EPR regulation:

  • Clothing (including company clothing and workwear).
  • Household textiles, such as bedding, table linens and household textiles.

Some exceptions:

  • Shoes
  • Belts
  • Headgear
  • Blankets
  • Bedspreads
  • Curtains
  • Cleaning cloths
